Matthew McConaughey’s decision to leave behind those dire rom-coms and action-adventures appears to be paying off. A stand-out performance in last year’s cracking thriller THE LINCOLN LAWYER paved the way for McConaughey to make 2012 the greatest of his career. William Friedkin’s outstanding KILLER JOE offered him his finest role to date, and Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper comic-drama MAGIC MIKE saw yet another terrific turn. There’s also a few more (possibly) acclaimed roles coming up with the forthcoming flicks BERNIE, MUD and THE PAPERBOY.
Now, it has been announced that McConaughey is collaborating with one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, as he joins the cast of THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, will depict the downward spiral of former financial wiz Jordan Belfort, a man whose drug-fueled party lifestyle played a part in taking risky investments and bringing the world economy to its knees.
McConaughey is expected to be the former boss of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Belfort, Mark Hanna. He’ll join the cast of Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Jon Bernthal, Margot Robie and Jon Favreau. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET is based on the novel by the convicted criminal, and has been adapted for the screen by THE SOPRANOS regular Terrence Winter.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
