Arnold Schwarzenegger is soon to be back on our screen with THE EXPENDABLES 2 later in August, but I’m more excited for THE LAST STAND which will be his first starring role in a decade. That’s right folks, it’s been nearly 10 years since TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES (2003). It also marks the first film for director Kim Ji-Woon outside of his native Korea. The man behind cult classics such as A TALE OF TWO SISTERS (2003), THE GOOD THE BAD THE WEIRD (2008), A BITTERSWEET LIFE (2005), and I SAW THE DEVIL (2010) has certainly proven himself capable of creating mood and handling action and violence. But will his unique mix of black humour transfer over effectively?
The still is a simple one and shows Arnie in a pair of sunglasses looking like an elderly badass. By the sounds of things Schwarzenegger will be adding a certain kind of vulnerability to his role. Which may not be on purpose according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Talking to USA Today di Bonaventura had this to say:
‘When he leaps and tackles someone, it’s not simple to get back up. You see a new side of him. He doesn’t feel indestructible. You’re rooting for him more because he’s more like us. And he gets up and keeps on going. When he needs to be Arnold, he’s Arnold.’
Personally I can’t wait to see a trailer for this one.
THE LAST STAND is released 25th January 2013. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Luis Guzman, Forest Whitaker, Peter Stormare, Genesis Rodriguez, and Johnny Knoxville.
