About a year ago Billy Bob Thornton confirmed that the foul-mouthed festive-favourite BAD SANTA was to get a sequel. Well, now it seems that the follow-up has snagged a director, in the form of Steve Pink. He was writer of John Cusack classics GROSSE POINT BLANK and HIGH FIDELITY, and was the director behind the Cusack-led time-travel comedy HOT TUB TIME MACHINE. It’s expected Pink will also give the script (written by John Phillips and Johnny Rosenthal) a significant re-write.
The 2003 cult hit told the story of sad-sack alcoholic Willie T. Stokes, who along with his partner in crime Marcus (Tony Cox), play the role of Santa and an elf at a department store, before robbing the place of its contents and cash come closing time. By the end of the film, we saw Willie find a touch of redemption through the help of Brett Kelly’s bullied teen Therman Merman and Lauren Graham’s Santa fetishist Sue.
Would you be happy to see Thornton back as BAD SANTA, and does the prospect of Pink in charge fill you with joy? Let us know your thoughts. Expect to see it in cinemas Christmas 2013.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
