Forget Batman, it’s all about James Bond this week, following his dramatic entrance into the 2012 Olympics and an all-new TV spot. Now, with the summer blockbusters out of the way, Bond’s 23rd outing SKYFALL promises to be one of the year’s movie highlights, and we’ll be hoping director Sam Mendes returns the franchise to CASINO ROYALE-style glory.
SKYFALL will see Bond’s loyalty to M challenged, when some unpleasantness from her past returns to wreck havoc on MI6, which all sounds like a very satisfying 007 adventure. What’s most intriguing is the addition of several key actors. The franchise will welcome back Q in the form of Ben Wishaw (does this suggest a return towards the Bond formula subverted in ROYALE and discarded almost entirely in QUANTUM OF SOLACE?), but perhaps even more curious is Ralph Fiennes’ Gareth Mallory and Javier Bardem’s villain Silva, both of whom we know very little about so far.
Whatever their role, it’s always exciting to see Bond back on the big screen, and just to whet our appetites a little more, here’s the brand new trailer!
SKYFALL stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Wishaw, Helen McCrory, Naomie Harris, and Judi Dench. It arrives in UK cinemas 26th October.
