Momentum Pictures Confirm Their Line-Up For Film4 Frightfest 2012

Always a festival to mark in genre fans’ diaries, Film4 Frightfest is due to hit the capital during 23rd-27th August. Forget the Olympics, horror fanatics around the country and even the world, will invade London to catch the premieres of a number of anticipated slashers, ghostly chillers and psychological unsettlers for the rather unlucky and apt 13th anniversary. Momentum Pictures have confirmed these three efforts that will feature as part of the ceremony.

First we have Scott Derrickson’s terrifying-looking SINISTER. Ethan Hawke plays a crime novelist searching for the answers to why a family was murdered in the home he recently acquired. Leading to the shocking discovery that his own family may be next. C0-writer C. Robert Cargill will also be attendance at the première 26th August

Next up will be German vampire thriller WE ARE THE NIGHT, in which a young petty thief (Karoline Herfurth) is seduced by the band of female bloodsuckers. The film, directed by Dennis Gansel, was released in its homeland during late 2010 but is sure to gain even more international attention with its showing here.

Finally we’ll also get to see the controversial horror anthology V/H/S, in which a group of thieves are tasked with stealing a specific videotape from a mysterious house. Once they arrive, curiosity gets the better of them as they begin to wonder what could be on the huge collection of cassettes. Much like CREEPSHOW or TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, each tape has its own unique story to tell, but expect the humour of those flicks to be replaced by pure nail-biting terror. Directors Ti West, Glen McQuaid, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, Adam Wingard and the Radio Silence group are all involved in bringing this to the big-screen.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
