There are three things Christian Bale does better than anyone else: play the conflicted hero, grow and amusing ginger beard, and put on a gravelly voice. But, as Meat Loaf says – two out of ain’t bad, which is exactly what we’ll get from Bale’s latest drama, FLOWERS OF WAR.
Set in China in 1937, Bale plays John Miller, a Westerner who finds refuge with a church populated by convent students and prostitutes. As the Japanese invade and abuse the women, Miller poses as a priest and becomes their protector, attempting to lead them to safety.
Directed by Yimou Zhang, FLOWERS OF WAR is already the highest-grossing Chinese production in movie history and has been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Check out this exclusive clip of the film, which arrives in UK cinemas 3rd August.
