First Look At Michael Shannon As The Iceman

Intense-but-brilliant actor Michael Shannon usually wears a scowl on his face even when smiling, which makes him perfect for the lead role in the dark biopic, THE ICEMAN. Although he’ll soon be starring in Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL (as General Zod), first we’ll see him in this new thriller as the loving family man Richard Kuklinski, who hides a dark secret: he’s the mob’s go-to-guy when it comes to murder.

Based on the non-fiction crime novel by Anthony Bruno, the film will document Kuklinski’s rise as a prolific assassin for the Gambino crime family, while he hides his ‘other life’ from his wife and children. He was found guilty of five murders and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1985, although he’s been linked to nearly 250 more killings. He died in prison (aged 70) in 2006.

Here we have our first look, (if you don’t count this teaser poster) of Shannon’s emotionless contract killer. The supporting cast is also pretty special with the likes of Ray Liotta, James Franco, Stephen Dorff, Chris Evans, Winona Ryder, Robert Davi and David Schwimmer also appearing. Written and directed by Ariel Vroman, THE ICEMAN hits cinemas early next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
