Blue Sky Studios are a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox and although they’ve got a way to go to truly hit the heights of Disney-Pixar, they are vastly improving with every release. Today we have a very early sneak peek at their new intriguing project, EPIC. Thankfully, this is nothing close to the dreadful so-called ‘satire’ EPIC MOVIE of 2007 and instead an amazing insight to a massive world that echoes the scope of AVATAR. The twist with EPIC does reminds me of HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS but this version seems a lot more embedded in nature and the world within that world.
EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure that centres around teenager Mary Katherine (voiced by Amanda Seyfried), who finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle rages between the forces of good and evil. So, in true animation fashion, she bands together a group of various characters in order to save their world…and ours. It’s a pretty usual set-up for a narrative but it’s the worlds that are created that makes Blue Sky different and this one looks utterly fascinating.
Find their official page and Twitter but first, check out the trailer:
If you’re wondering about the music, it’s Snow Patrol. EPIC is directed by Chris Wedge (ICE AGE) who’s behind the voice of prehistoric squirrel-legend Scrat and also features the voices of Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Aziz Ansari, Jason Sudeikis, Johnny Knoxville, Judah Friedlander, Steven Tyler (!) and Beyonce Knowles. It opens on May 24th, 2013.
