20th Century Fox don’t hang around when it comes to casting. Earlier this week it was reported that Jessica Biel would take on the villainous role of Viper. Biel was quick to state that it wasn’t a done deal and then we heard that negotiations had fallen through. Now Svetlana Khodchenkova, probably best known for her role on TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY, is rumoured for the part and the deal should be finalised soon.
Viper has had a long and complex relationship with the characters in the Marvel universe. She first appeared back in 1969 in CAPTAIN AMERICA. She was once in league with the criminal organisation HYDRA, as led by the Red Skull in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Don’t expect these references to surface in THE WOLVERINE, but do expect a bit of deceptive femme fatale action.
I think it’s brave of Fox to go with a relative unknown especially as the rest of the cast – besides Hugh Jackman – aren’t exactly household names.
THE WOLVERINE is to be released 26th July 2013. It stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee and Hiroyuki Sanada.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

The character used to be Madame Hydra & she changed her name to Viper when she left Hydra in the comics.
