Francis Lawrence’s (I AM LEGEND, CONSTANTINE) screen vision of THE HUNGER GAMES second film CATCHING FIRE is gathering an impressive cast. Yes, he can’t direct but even he’ll find it hard to ‘CONSTANTINE’ this with a group consisting of Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci all signed up and rumblings Melissa Leo (THE FIGHTER) and Tony Shalhoub (TVs MONK) could be added to the cast as Mags and Beetee respectively with Sam Claflin (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN) rumoured as Finnick – a participant in the not-violent enough games. (pause for breath)
Well I’m excited… sorry that should say bored; when will studio’s realise it doesn’t matter how many stars you throw at a film if it’s under the wrong director it isn’t going to work. I sincerely hope I’m wrong but maybe, just maybe, Gary Ross got out at the right time: what do you think?
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is released in the UK on 22nd November 2013.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.

I loved The Hunger Games. I loved the cast and I loved Gary Ross’ direction. The fact he isn’t onboard for this next film disappoints me. However, bear in mind that the script has been written by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours), whilst I Am Legend & Constantine were written by hack monkeys. Lawrence is gonna have to try really hard to fudge this one up.

Although the film version of I Am Legend destroyed the talent behind it, I really *coughs* liked Constantine.
Not in an intelligent way, as a visual bit of fun! 😛
