Recently we’ve been giving you lots of trailers for films that premiered (or were successful) at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival – and today seems to be no exception. Here we have the ‘Best Of NEXT Audience Award’ Mike Birbiglia-directed SLEEPWALK WITH ME, starring Mike Birbiglia (YOUR SISTER’S SISTER) himself.
The film follows Mike’s character, an unsuccessful comedian who works as a bartender, trying to avoid tying the knot with his girlfriend (Lauren Ambrose – SIX FEET UNDER). Mix that in with pressure from his parents – Linda (Carol Kane – FOUR CHRISTMASES) and Gary (James Rebhorn – REAL STEAL) – and he begins to sleepwalk. Although the whole ‘oh, I don’t know if I want to get married but I secretly want to’ theme has been played out a thousand times, Mike’s character seems quite honest and real (maybe something to do with the fact he talks to the camera).
Having done really well at other film festivals (it was screened at South By Southwest in the Festival Favourites category), this charming and quirky comedy looks as if it could be successful when released to the general public.
SLEEPWALK WITH ME, directed by Mike Birbiglia, is due for a limited US release from 24th August.
