Green Day To Release Two Documentaries Alongside New Albums

Green Day fans – rejoice! If it isn’t enough that they’re releasing three albums over the next six months, reports are coming in that two documentaries will be released to coincide with the new material.

The first will consist mainly of recorded footage from recent gigs, tours and behind-the-scenes glimpses while the second will be made up of footage that was recorded before the release of their third album, ‘Dookie’. The band has moved from strength to strength in that 18 year gap so it’ll be interesting to see how different they are, back then compared to now. Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer) has said, ‘It’s not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going ‘we started out blah blah blah’. We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock ‘n’ roll and playing rock ‘n’ roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist (history).’

The band are said to be working with Tim Wheeler (co-producer and editor who worked on The White Stripes documentary THE WHITE STRIPES UNDER GREAT WHITE NORTHERN LIGHTS) and Tim Lynch (who acted as producer on Green Day’s BULLET IN A BIBLE film). It has also been said that they’ll be re-collaborating with film maker Sam Bayer, who was the director behind BULLET IN A BIBLE and has also been the genius behind a number of their music videos, including ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Jesus Of Suburbia’. Warner Bros. Records, the label Green Day are signed under, have said that the making-of video should be ready by early next year, hopefully in time to be released at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

I am a huge Green Day fan and I’m excited enough by the three albums news. However, the reports of the videos have just made me even more eager, especially as BULLET… was a hit with fans – hopefully the two new documentaries will be in the same vein.

Green Day’s first album (of the three), ‘Uno!’, is due for release from 25th September 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
