Christopher Nolan Rules Out Justice League Movie

Not that we needed this clarification, but THE DARK KNIGHT RISES director, Christopher Nolan, has officially ruled out his involvement from any future JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES signals the end of Nolan’s Batman franchise and he has continuously stated that he will not be making a fourth. However, he has lent his name as producer to the forthcoming Superman reboot MAN OF STEEL.

The JUSTICE LEAGUE has been rumoured for years, but after the success of Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, it is now widely believed that DC and Warner Bros. will move forward with their own super-hero team. JUSTICE LEAGUE features the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash, among others. Since he’s on promotional duties for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Nolan was bound to be asked this question, but he has officially quashed this speculation.

‘We’re finished with all we’re doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character…Batman will outlive us all, and our interpretation was ours. Obviously, we consider it definitive and kind of finished. The great thing about Batman is he lives on for future generations to reinterpret, and obviously, Warners will have to decide in the future what they’re going to do with him, we’ve had our say on the character…I’ve got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any JUSTICE LEAGUE project.’

I think this is great news as Warner Bros. cannot continue to rely on Christopher Nolan. He’s very talented and his Batman films are iconic, but considering Nolan repeatedly refused Robin and certain Batman villains, I doubt he’s the man to get behind the likes of The Flash and Aquaman. DC and Warner Bros. also have a terrible track record at solo projects that don’t involve The Caped Crusader or Superman. They failed miserably to capture the epic magic of GREEN LANTERN, and their WONDER WOMAN television series failed at the pilot stage.

I may be more of a DC man than Marvel, but I’m not that excited by a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. Someone at Warner Bros. thought it would be good to make a light-hearted JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA TV show back in 1997. That also didn’t get past the pilot stage and was only shown in the UK on Channel 5 as a one-off TV movie. It was horrific and tried to be a superhero version of FRIENDS, where the characters also talk to the camera during ‘interview’ segments.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is released 20th July 2012. It stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.
