Jena Malone Confirmed For Hunger Games Sequel

The last week or so, THN reported that the significant role of Johanna Mason in Francis Lawrence’s soon-to-shoot sequel to box-office smash THE HUNGER GAMES, was now down to two actresses. SUCKER PUNCH and DONNIE DARKO star Jena Malone and model/actress Zoe Aggeliki have been fighting it out in the casting room for the right to play the ruthless axe-swinging tribute in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE.

Malone’s experience seems to have won out, with the 28 year-old’s involvement now confirmed. Her character is also a major player in Suzanne Collins’ third and final novel Mockingjay. So, barring a catastrophe at the box-office, she’s a ‘shoe in’ to return for the concluding effort, which has amazingly, considering the box-office haul of THE HUNGER GAMES, is still yet to be confirmed.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will shoot October/November and is slated for a release 22nd November 2013. Returning to the roles from the first film will be Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Toby Jones and Stanley Tucci. Joining Malone as a newcomer to the franchise, is Phillip Seymour Hoffman as new games-maker Plutarch Heavensbee.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
