After Pixar’s BRAVE opened so well last week, you’d have not been a fool to suspect it would stay at number one in the US Box Office Top 10. But boy, would you have egg on your face now: TED, Seth McFarlane’s debut motion picture has stormed to the top and broken the record for the biggest R-Rated (that means dirty) non-sequel opening weekend in US history with $54.1 million. This is most impressive, and as equally surprising was the strong opening for MAGIC MIKE, the Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey-starring tale of male strippers, in second with $39.1 million; BRAVE had to settle for third place with a drop of almost 50% in takings from its opening weekend.
With THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN poised to open in the massive 4th July week it would be shocking if TED was to hold onto number one for a second week but we’ll be sure to let you know how it fares.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
