Chloe Grace Moretz seems to be one of the hardest working young actresses around at the moment. Having starred in 2011’s HUGO, for which she was nominated for a Phoenix Film Society Award for Best Performance for a Youth, she went on to feature opposite Johnny Depp in this year’s DARK SHADOWS, directed by none other than Tim Burton. We knew she’d accepted the role of Carrie in Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel, but we hadn’t seen much else released about it – until now.
Moretz plays the title role in CARRIE, brought up in Maine by her extremely religious and conservative mother, Margaret White (played by Julianne Moore – THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT). At school, Carrie is continuously picked on and put down by the popular girls, including Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday – YOUTH IN REVOLT). Carrie’s gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer – THE DESCENDANTS) and Chris’ best friend Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde – ST TRINIAN’S 2: THE LEGEND OF FRITTON’S GOLD) are the only people who feel any sympathy for her and want to protect her. As a way of encouragement and an attempt at friendship, Sue asks her boyfriend Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort) to take Carrie to their high school prom. However, things don’t go to plan as Carrie is humiliated further at the dance – where she unleashes her telekinetic powers on her unsuspecting ‘friends’.
The picture below shows Moretz on set – check out her very ‘CARRIE’ costume, including a small silver crucifix necklace. She’s said that this version is very different to the original: ‘It’s more like the book. It’s a more BLACK SWAN version – it messes with your mind.’ In that case, I think Peirce’s ‘remake’ could bring the story to a whole new audience and hopefully please long-time fans.
CARRIE, directed by Kimberly Peirce, is currently filming.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
