The latest Kevin James film (I refuse to call it a comedy) HERE COMES THE BOOM has released a trailer. Kevin James has decided to punish us all by once again teaming up with ZOOKEEPER director Frank Coraci. HERE COMES THE BOOM is the story of a high school teacher taking up MMA fighting in order to raise money for the school.
Anybody who remembers last year’s phenomenal WARRIOR, will already be shaking their heads at this film. Do screenwriters really need to continue using the ‘raise x amount of cash to save y’ plot? It’s such a lazy route to take. Of course there’s obviously a valuable message to this, which is spelled out in the trailer. Was there no better way to raise the money than for Kevin James to start fighting? It’s only $48,000. It’s not pocket change, but we aren’t talking millions here. We’re also going to have to sit through a forced romance as Kevin James once again manages to land a stunning woman in the form of Salma Hayek.
The trailer failed to make me laugh and, if like many comedies, the best parts are in the trailer, then it doesn’t look good for this project. I think my biggest concern is that it isn’t outrageous enough. You have Kevin James taking up a professional sport. This should be on the verge of parody, but instead it has tried to be inspirational.
HERE COMES THE BOOM is released 9th November 2012. It stars Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler, and Greg Germann.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies.
