Good things come in pairs, so Summit has decided to treat us to not only the trailer, but also the poster for their new action/thriller ALEX CROSS. Tyler Perry takes over from Morgan Freeman as the FBI profiler, hunting down Matthew Fox’s killer, Picasso.
The supporting cast above the film’s title is the only thing that has my interest here. Maybe not A-listers, but the likes of Jean Reno and Edward Burns have always managed to impress me, although they have both taken on enough cop roles to fill their own division.
The rest of the poster is just awful with tacky and clichéd Photoshop techniques, employed on so many thrillers before it. It’s also very confusing. Why is Matthew Fox the focus here? He’s so big that after reading the title on the poster I immediately went to Fox. My first thoughts were ‘He’s not black. He’s not Tyler Perry’. Do the producers not have faith in their star? Also, why is Perry ‘inside’ Fox’s body? I understand he is an FBI profiler, but shouldn’t he be shown as being in the mind of the killer, not in his body? Add to that the tagline ‘Don’t Ever Cross Alex Cross’ and I just can’t take this effort seriously. The trailer is better, but I already know I wont be paying for this at the cinema.
ALEX CROSS is released on 30th November 2012. It stars Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, John C. McGinley, Jean Reno, and Cicely Tyson.
