Having burst onto the scene with his daring debut HUNGER, (which told the controversial last few months of IRA political inmate Bobby Sands, courageously played by Michael Fassbender) director Steve McQueen is making a knack of bringing unsettling subjects to the big-screen. After headlining McQueen’s fascinating and frankly uneasy sex-addiction drama SHAME, Fassbender and McQueen will reunite a third time, for a take on Solomon Northup’s 1853 biography TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE. It’s a project that will chronicle Northup’s free black man, who is drugged and sold into a harrowing life of slavery.
Television favourite Michael K. Williams has joined the terrific line-up already confirmed for McQueen’s forthcoming project. He’ll be joining the aforementioned Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor (as the lead Northup) and Brad Pitt. Williams has appeared in acclaimed roles on THE WIRE and BOARDWALK EMPIRE, as well as big-screen efforts such as THE ROAD and GONE BABY GONE.
The cast is also expected to feature the likes of Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Garrett Dillahunt. TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE will shoot later this year for a release late in 2013.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
