Say what you want about the first MACHETE film, but you have to tip your hat to Robert Rodriguez for the cast that he assembled for it. It looks like the Texan producer/ writer/ director/ editor/ catering manager is doing the same for the second film MACHETE KILLS too because as well as persuading the likes of Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson and Amber Heard to star, he’s also managed to bag former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen to play…. the president of the United States! The move sees the actor following in the footsteps of his old man, and indeed friend of the site Martin Sheen, who famously played the most powerful man in the world in The West Wing.
I think it’s excellent casting, and soooo fantastic that Sheen is back on the big screen in his first proper role since SCARY MOVIE 3 in 2003.
Rodriguez Tweeted the pic above when he revealed the choice casting.
In related news, Collider have managed to grab some images of fellow cast member Sophie Vergara on the set of the film, which is currently shooting in over in Texas. According to the site, Vergara plays “the leather-clad Madame Desdemona, whose Mexican heriots have information that Machete needs.” Vergara you will remember for her roles in such gems as FOUR BROTHERS and more importantly, NEW YEAR’S EVE, one of the best films of last year. I jest. Check out the image below.
MACHETE KILLS hits cinemas in 2013.
