The remake of Brian DePalma’s horror classic CARRIE appears to be in good hands with Kimberly Pierce. The BOYS DON’T CRY writer/director has shown she can handle strong, emotional characters, with her debut leading to Hilary Swank’s first Academy Award. Pierce has promised a new take on Stephen King’s novel, going right back to the source material of the story of bullied telekinetic teenager, who’s pushed a bit too far on prom night.
Already confirmed as the title character is Chloe Grace Moretz, with the superb Julianne Moore also on board as her bible-bashing, domineering mother Margaret White. Now we have another two names to add to the supporting cast that also consists of CHRONICLE’s Alex Russell, THE THREE MUSKETEERS’ Gabriella Wilde and newcomer Ivan Hoey Jr.
TV and film veteran Judy Greer has signed for the role of gym teacher Miss Collins, along with Portia Doubleday who takes the role of Chris Hargensen, the main bully previously played by Nancy Allen in DePalma’s 1976 effort.
CARRIE is currently shooting and is expected in cinemas 12 April 2013.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
