RoboCop Villain Will Be…Hugh Laurie!

The cast of the upcoming ROBOCOP remake has recently been taking shape. Lead Joel Kinnaman was confirmed months ago now, but the last few weeks we’ve had Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish join the the cast. Fans of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 violent classic, have been left wondering who’ll take the role of Anne Lewis, Clarence Boddicker and Dick Jones…If they appear at all.

Jose Padhila appears to be going a different route, and attempting to give a fresh perspective on the metallic supercop. A number of characters seem to have been given a name change, with minor supporting roles in Verhoeven’s film also being brought to the fore and play a bigger role this time round. The role of Murphy’s wife Ellen in particular.

So THN now as word that HOUSE star Hugh Laurie is expected to take the role of the evil, mega rich chief of Omnicorp. We’re thinking this could be the Dick Jones role previously played by the late, great Ronny Cox. Whether they stick with the name of Jones, remains to be seen. Great casting? What do you think of the prancing Prince Regent from BLACKADDER as a lead villain?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
