There are some who are eagerly anticipating the realisation of a third entry to the GHOSTBUSTERS franchise, but Bill Murray (who portrays Dr Peter Venkman) is not one of them it would seem. Despite a fully developed script and most of the rest of the cast already being on board, Murray is not keen, and he told David Letterman his reasons for the cold shoulder…
‘They just don’t have a really good script,’ he said. ‘It’s hard. The second GHOSTBUSTERS wasn’t as much fun for me as the first one. It’s hard to make a sequel. That first one was really funny. It was just so darn funny. It’s hard for me.’
Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote and starred in the previous two offerings, has reportedly found the entire experience very frustrating. He simply cannot see eye to eye with Murray at the moment, and has even considered undertaking the project without him; a bold move that would have seen Venkman killed off in the opening moments of the film. However, the two have not fallen out, and Murray did go on to say that a script re-write could change everything. ‘We’ll try again,’ he reassured fans.
THN salutes you, Mr Murray. At a time when many filmmakers, writers and actors are quick to jump into any rebooting of a money-spinning franchise, whether it has any real creative merit or not, it is refreshing to find someone whose sentiments lie within their work and its aura.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
