J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Looking To Explore The ‘God Particle’

There are rumours abound that Paramount have taken on a hot script called GOD PARTICLE, written by the upcoming Oren Uziel, who’s a new writer on the scene currently penning the screenplay for MORTAL KOMBAT. Uziel has also written Robbie Pickering-directed sci-fi THE KITCHEN SKIN that is currently in production but sounds intriguing enough. That film follows a group of zombie, vampire and human teenagers who are forced to band together to take on an deadly alien invasion. They just have to suppress their urge to kill each other to do it…

Back to GOD PARTICLE and it does seem right up JJ’s street to produce, in that similar extremity vein to CLOVERFIELD, as this early synopsis suggests:

After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.

The early rumours are that although he may not direct, JJ would be happy to put his cash behind this new project under the newly formed Insurge Pictures, who operate as micro-budget division of Paramount. Insurge were behind THE DEVIL INSIDE and despite that film getting a panning from critics, it was made for $1m and took $101m. Also, after the success of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and Hammer’s THE WOMAN IN BLACK, studios are taking a much lengthier look at developing smaller projects with lots of different backing, which is great to see! Maybe we could even get Professor Brian Cox on board, he loves those particles.
