Cumberbatch Joins McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave

Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for his recent appearance in WAR HORSE and his role as the rapier witted SHERLOCK, has just added his name to a long list of many set to join Steven McQueen’s upcoming history drama TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE.

The production tells the true life story of Solomon Northup, a free black man living in New York who is consequently lured into taking a job which sees him kidnapped and forced to work on a plantation in the deep south. Current reports state that our very own Cumberbatch will be playing the plantation owner who is gradually swayed by Solomon’s engineering skills.

The British actor will be working along side the likes of Brad Pitt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Adepero Oduye and current ‘it’ man of the acting world, Michael Fassbender, for the screenplay co-written by McQueen and John Ridley (RED TAILS) The film, that begins shooting at the end of this month, is based on Northup’s 1953 autobiography and will also feature Paul Dano, Scoot McNairy, Ruth Negga and Taran Killam.
