Everyone may be going absolutely wild for Ridley Scott’s voyage of self-indulgence in the form of PROMETHEUS this week (there, I said it), but my sights are firmly fixated on the massive 2013 biopic, RUSH. The film, directed by Ron Howard, revolves around therivalry between Brit James Hunt (played by Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) during the 1976 Formula One championship. Shooting for the film wrapped last week after lensing across the UK (at Brands Hatch, Crystal Palace, Snetterton and Cadwell Park) and over at the Nürburgring in Germany, where Lauda’s infamous crash was recreated in the exact spot in which it happened nearly 37 years ago.
I’m amped for the film being a huge fan of the sport, and indeed the era in which the action is focussed upon. Also really chuffed to see Niki Faulkner’s UK based Driving Wizards involved with the precision driving in the film. Check out the following video, aired on the BBC in the UK this past weekend during the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix, which is our very first look at footage from the film, behind the scenes action, and interviews with director Howard, producer Andrew Eaton and driving genius Faulkner.
Also, pan down for a second amateur video of the recreation of Lauda’s crash, filmed recently at the Nürburgring.
RUSH is now in post production, and is currently awaiting a release date.
