Peter Bogdanovich is probably best known for directing PAPER MOON (1971) and THE CAT’S MEOW (2001) but he did also star in TV smash THE SOPRANOS as Dr. Elliot Kupferberg. Today, THN have news that he’s gathering a very impressive ensemble cast for SQUIRRELS TO THE NUTS. So far, Owen Wilson, Olivia Wilde, Jason Schwartzman and Brie Larson (21 JUMP STREET) are all attached to the indie comedy.
We’ve got a sneaky feeling that this may be a quirky outing as Noah Baumbach and MOONRISE KINGDOM’S Wes Anderson are also on board to produce. SQUIRRELS TO THE NUTS will focus on a hooker who has become a Broadway actor played by Brie Larson and supposedly her character will suffer “recurring intersection between these two facets of her life.” Schwarztman is being rumoured to play a writer who falls in love with Larson and, I quote again: “despite the fact that he’s dating her therapist (Wilde), whose own alcoholic mother is in rehab.”
It’s early days of production but we’ll be keeping an eye on this and hoping for something special, more news as it happens on THN!
