Gary Oldman Set For Role in RoboCop

Gary Oldman has been very busy lately with the upcoming releases of his films LAWLESS and the much anticipated THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.  But his schedule has become even more packed now that he has joined the cast of the new ROBOCOP, an MGM remake of the 1987 original film.

Starring as Norton, the man who creates Robocop, Oldman will act opposite Joel Kinnaman (THE KILLING), who will take on main role of the cop named Alex Murphy, the police officer brought back from the dead and turned into a cyborg.

Jose Padilha will be directing the remake of the Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classic and the film will be produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Shooting is planned to start in Toronto in September, with the makers scheduling a summer hit release in 2013.

As one of the most respected actors of his generation, Oldman’s excellence in ROBOCOP is not to be doubted. Only last year did the Oscar nominated actor show us how wide his talents span, from portraying the iconic George Smiley in TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY to making a return to the HARRY POTTER franchise as Sirius Black or giving his voiced for the animated KUNG FU PANDA 2. His addition to the new ROBOCOP can only make the film better.
