Rising star James Badge Dale has been confirmed for the superhero sequel IRON MAN 3. The actor who was last seen in sex-addiction drama SHAME and Joe Carnahan’s ace survival-thriller THE GREY will play the role of Eric Savin.
In the comic series, Savin is a military sergeant who leads the covert project that eventually leads to the unleashing of a deadly virus. The character would later evolve into cyborg villain Coldblood.
Dale will join the returning Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle, Gwenyth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson. Fellow newcomers to the franchise include Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, who recently replaced Jessica Chastain. However, before we see him in IRON MAN 3, Dale has supporting roles in significant features, such as THE LONE RANGER, FLIGHT and the Brad Pitt-starring zombie epic, WORLD WAR Z.
IRON MAN 3 will be written and directed by Shane Black and is set for a release May 2013. Shooting starts next week.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
