Idris Elba Confirms He’ll Be Back For Thor 2

He happens to have a significant role in the much-anticipated PROMETHEUS, but Idris Elba has also confirmed he’ll be back as Heimdall in THOR 2. While speaking to Collider about Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequel, THE WIRE actor was pressed about a return as the Guardian of Asgard:

Yes, I am.  I’m definitely going to do my man in a suit film. I’d just like to get to know him a bit more.  Who is Heimdall?  He guards the gate.  Okay.  Is there anything else?  I don’t know what is in the script because I haven’t read it yet.  But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it’s about.  I’m sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more. My schedule is really packed, but I’m going to do THOR, after I play [Nelson] Mandela.

THOR 2 will be helmed by GAME OF THRONES regular Alan Taylor, who takes over Kenneth Branagh. MONSTER’s Patty Jenkins was originally set for the sequel before being replaced. Branagh meanwhile, will attempt to kick-start the Jack Ryan franchise, with Chris Pine as the C.I.A. operative.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
