In any other year, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES would be unquestionably the most anticipated film of the summer. But in 2012, Christopher Nolan’s Batman three-quel will have to work pretty hard to top AVENGERS ASSEMBLE and, if expectations are met, PROMETHEUS. We should count ourselves lucky – it’s another cracking blockbuster season.
When stacked up against these other films, it’s easy to forget just how brilliant Nolan’s previous Dark Knight films are. Whilst Marvel’s Avengers are vibrant, lighthearted, and playful, Warner Bros’ Batman reboot is dark, intense, and disturbingly realistic. And just as Heath Ledger’s Joker stole the show last time around, a great deal of expectation falls on the shoulders of the new villain, Bane (Tom Hardy, who let’s be honest, is a scary-looking bastard.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES arrives in UK cinemas 20th July 2012.
