Perhaps one of the finest directors of our time, William Friedkin is the man responsible for some of cinemas most important works. When you consider his output consists of classics like THE FRENCH CONNECTION, THE EXORCIST, SORCERER, TO LIVE & DIE IN L.A., and THE HUNTED, he is a director that thrills in any genre he tackles. Controversy is also not far away from many of his projects; never more so than serial-killer thrillers CRUISING and RAMPAGE. Now you also add new dark comic thriller KILLER JOE, to the list of the latter.
KILLER JOE has just been granted the dreaded NC-17 certificate in the US, which is normally a nail in the coffin to any film tagged with such a rating. However, with Friedkin at the helm and an ace cast consisting of Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Gina Gershon, Juno Temple and Thomas Haden Church, it is sure to have film fans intrigued as to why – which may work in its favour.
So below we have the new poster and trailer for the ‘edgy noir’ that will premiere in the UK, at the opening night of the Edinburgh Film Festival on the 20th June. That’s before its nationwide release on the 29th June. THN will be there to give you our first review and thoughts of hopefully another Friedkin classic.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
