Edgar Wright Teases Ant-Man

With the success of THE AVENGERS, superhero fans are eager to discover which Marvel characters will be making a leap to the big screen. Well, scuttling into the spotlight is… Ant-Man!

An adaptation to be directed by Edgar Wright has been long rumoured and we’re finally hearing some positive news on the project’s progress. The SHAUN OF THE DEAD director recently tweeted this picture with the caption ‘Received this in the mail. What could it mean?’:

Potentially fan art, yes, but it’s presence alone suggests work on ANT-MAN is underway. In a recent interview, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige commented on the adaptation:

‘It’s somewhere. I’ll just say it’s closer than it’s ever been in its long maybe eight year history, and I usually e-mail Edgar every two or three days and over those eight years its got further away and closer… we are now closer than we’ve ever been. So I hope it will come together shortly.’

Early days but definitely in progress. In Marvel comics, Ant-Man was a founding member of The Avengers (and thus could potentially feature in THE AVENGERS 2). The character invented a helmet that could shrink him down and control an army of ants to… solve mysteries. Alright then. Ant-Man also went on to develop the technology to increase in mass and become ‘Giant-Man’.

Such quirky material would be perfect for Wright — who has previously directed SPACED, HOT FUZZ, and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD — so hopefully there’ll be an official announcement about ANT-MAN soon.
