‘Tarzan’ 3D Mo-Cap Picture Has Its Leads!

The art of ‘performance/motion-capture’ has been used as a significant tool in cinema, since Peter Jackson made our jaws drop with Gollum in his THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Robert Zemeckis has also used the film making style with more-than mixed results, in THE POLAR EXPRESS, BEOWULF and A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The notorious human ‘dead-eye’ effect always becoming his undoing; as it was with the first ever full-length feature FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN.

James Cameron then give us the box-office behemoth AVATAR in 2009, while late last year Steven Spielberg’s THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN (co-produced by Peter Jackson) perfected the technique to give us arguably the forms finest feature.

Now Constantin Films is to adapt Edger Rice Burroughs’ iconic ape-man TARZAN as a 3D motion-capture epic, and today THN can confirm the film’s leads of Tarzan and Jane. THE TWILIGHT SAGA hunk Kellan Lutz will portray the vine-swinging, jungle-dwelling hero, while RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION and AFTERLIFE actress Spencer Locke, will take the romantic role of Jane. AMINALS UNITED’s Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe will direct.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
