‘Poltergeist’ Remake Confirms Its Director

With rumours suggesting Sam Raimi was set to direct MGM’s POLTERGEIST remake, we can finally confirm Sam will not be the man to bring us the modern re-imagining of Tobe Hooper’s 1980s spooky classic. Over the course of the projects development, the script has been tackled by the likes of SINISTER’s Scott Derrickson, THE POSSESSION’s Juliet Snowdon and current OZ THE GREAT & POWERFUL scribe, David Lindsay-Abaire. The latter duo may have had a hand in linking Raimi to the hot seat and also the fact he’ll produce via his Ghosthouse Productions.

MONSTER HOUSE’s Gil Kenan will make only his second live-action feature following 2008s CITY OF EMBER. The Oscar-nominated animated feature which made his name is probably what landed him the gig of retelling the story of suburban family, The Freelings, who find their home targeted by dark forces. In all honesty, we found James Wan’s INSIDIOUS was effectively a remake of Hooper’s hit so Keenan’s going to have show us something special.

As always, we’ll keep you posted on any future developments.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
