Farrell Offered Lead Role In Goldman’s Winter’s Tale

Loveable Irish rogue, Colin Farrell, has been offered the role of leading male protagonist in the upcoming adaptation of Mark Helprin’s 1983 novel, WINTER’S TALE. The project will be Akiva Goldsman’s (THE DA VINCI CODE) directorial debut, and it will feature Jessica Brown Findlay (ALBATROSS), as well as a strong supporting cast, including Russell Crowe and Will Smith.

The bestselling story follows Peter Lake as he attempts to burglarize a Manhattan mansion, before finding a young dying girl lives there. Despite the circumstances in which they meet, they soon discover they are kindred spirits.

The Warner Bros film is due to begin shooting in New York, in October, with Benjamin Walker, Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Aaron Johnson, Garrett Hedlund and Liam Hemsworth all rumoured to be in line to replace Farrell, should negotiations fall through.

Akiva Goldsman previously butchered Robert Matheson’s story, I AM LEGEND, when he adapted it for the screen in 2007, but he is also responsible for penning the brilliant, A BEAUTIFUL MIND (2001), so it is difficult to predict how credible the final product will be.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
