Is Andy Lau In For ‘Iron Man 3’?

This week alone, we have been inundated with news from the Shane Black-directed IRON MAN 3, that is scheduled to begin shooting next month. Robert Downey Jr. -of course- will be back as playboy superhero Tony Stark, providing he survives Friday’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE …as if there is any doubt. Confirmed for a return are Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle (who replaced Terrence Howard for sequel IRON MAN 2) as Jim Rhodes aka War Machine. Ben Kingsley is also set to be the lead villain, as revealed a few weeks ago.

So far this week we have had confirmation that Guy Pearce will appear as Dr. Aldrich Killian, a scientist who creates the Extremis genetic virus and passes it onto terrorists. Also today we reported that Jessica Chastain was also in final talks for the expected role of fellow scientist Maya Hansen. Now we also have word INFERNAL AFFAIRS star Andy Lau is also set to star as the as-yet-unknown close friend to Stark.

Lau is a superstar in his native country after his popstar past and roles in HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, THE WARLORDS and the INFERNAL AFFAIRS trilogy. IRON MAN 3 is being co-produced in China, which would explain Lau’s expected inclusion.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

This would be AMAZING if Lau is cast in “Iron Man 3”. American’s need to realize the amazing talent that is in Hong Kong Cinema such as Lau, Simon Yam, and Louis Koo, just to name a few. If you want to see some powerful acting and action packed films just watch any film directed by Johnnie To with Andy Lau in it.
