First Poster For Long Awaited Lesbian Werewolf Movie, Jack & Diane

The first poster has been released for JACK & DIANE, the greatly anticipated indie-lesbian-lycanthropic flick by Bradley Rust Gray and starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough.

It tells the tale of Jack and (funnily enough) Diane, two teenage girls who meet one night in New York and spend the night kissing ferociously. Their love blossoms quickly, but when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country, she pushes her away. Little does Jack know that their sexual awakening has stirred the beast in her lover. Are they mere visions? Or is Diane becoming a monster?

The film had been in development for many years and at one point was close to starring Ellen Page and her JUNO co-star Olivia Thirlby. This set pulses racing, as the thought of the Page and Thrilby in a lesbian clinch was not unappealing to many. But this will be far from titillating exploitation, as Gray (THE EXPLODING GIRL, 2009) is a very serious film maker with a lot to say. You may notice the involvement of the Brothers Quay, two animators whose work is dark and contemplative. This will be as far from LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS (also 2009) as you can get.

It stars Juno Temple (ST. TRINIANS, CRACKS) and Riley Keough (THE RUNAWAYS, MAGIC MIKE) as the eponymous lovers and is written/directed by Bradley Rust Gray. Not only has he a glorious name, but he is interesting prospect in New Queer Cinema. Horror and queer cinema have long since been strange bedfellows, be it lesbian vampires of the Hammer era (VAMPIRE LOVERS/LUST FOR A VAMPIRE – 1970) or the homoeroticism of INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE (1994). There are some obvious parallels to be drawn between vampirism and sexuality (biting, bodily fluids, infection) but one of the more interesting examples is GINGER SNAPS (2000), a werewolf movie about two girls using lycanthropy as a metaphor for puberty. It has become a cult favourite (possibly via its heavy metal soundtrack and mild incestuous-sisters subtext) and its enduring popularity implies that JACK & DIANE has a ready made fan base.

Also, it’s got Kylie Minogue in it. AND she’s on the soundtrack.

The movie is set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival and will hopefully be released internationally this autumn.
