The directors behind LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006) have released the trailer for their upcoming Fox Searchlight romantic comedy RUBY SPARKS.
Paul Dano plays Calvin, a hopeless romantic and uninspired author who decides to write a fictional novel around made-up character, Ruby Sparks (played by Zoe Kazan, who wrote the screenplay). A week later, Ruby is sitting in his living room! The film then follows Calvin’s actions as he tries to convince people she is (and simultaneously isn’t) real.
Husband-and-wife co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris were the couple behind LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and this looks to be in the same vein – quirky, funny and lovable. Antonio Banderas, Deborah Ann Woll, Steve Coogan, Elliot Gould, Chris Messina and Annette Bening also star alongside Dano and Kazan, giving this potential indie hit a solid cast. Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
