Carell And Collette Collaborate For ‘The Way, Way Back’

It looks as if Steve Carell and Toni Collette will be collaborating again (after starring in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE together) for indie drama THE WAY, WAY BACK.

Jim Rash (stars in NBC’s COMMUNITY) and Nat Faxon were the writers behind Oscar-winner THE DESCENDANTS and are now spreading their directorial wings for the drama, which also stars Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney and Annasophia Robb. Collette plays a distracted, emotionally vacant mother, while Carell plays her partner – a drug-taking, abusive stepfather to Collette’s son. The film focuses on their summer vacation, where the son starts to find himself and understand life while avoiding his parents.

The script originally appeared on the Black List 2010 as one of the best unproduced screenplays but it now looks as if everything is coming together Rash and Faxon. Collette and Carell worked brilliantly together in their 2006 partnership so hopefully this will follow suit.

THE WAY, WAY BACK, directed by Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, is currently in pre-production.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
