It’s A ‘Manhunt’ For Gerard Butler

With a string a box-office hits under his belt with the likes of 300 and LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, as well as acclaimed performances in last years CORIOLANUS and MACHINE GUN PREACHER, Gerard Butler is set for another action-packed effort. The Scot is in advanced talks to headline director Breck Eisner’s cat-and-mouse thriller MANHUNT, which will begin shooting at the end of the year.

The plot will center on a team of specialist FBI agents sent to the North Carolina wilderness to hunt the FBI’s most wanted man, terrorist and survivalist James Tollan. After evading capture with the help of the locals after attacks on the unpopular government, the FBI look for the help of a reluctant bear hunter. Once the team enters the woods, the hunters become the hunted as Tollan becomes hell-bent on surviving and defending his territory.

It is unclear as-yet whether Butler will play villain Tollan, the FBI team leader or the bear hunter aiding the team. The film’s plot does share similarities with William Friedkin’s 2003 ace chase thriller THE HUNTED, which starred Benecio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
