Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is perhaps best known for creating thoughtful and complex characters who fire out punchy dialogue at breakneck speed (WEST WING, THE SOCIAL NETWORK). HBO are known for producing quality television (THE SOPRANOS, SIX FEET UNDER, THE WIRE) as well as being extremely liberal when it comes to censorship (or lack thereof). As a result, the prospect of a working partnership between the two for the upcoming drama, THE NEWSROOM, is one that we have great expectations of.
The story follows news anchor, Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer) and his newsroom staff (Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, and Thomas Sadoski) as well as their boss (Sam Waterston). Judging from the trailer below, McAvoy plunges quickly into a whole heap of trouble when he gives an honest, but unexpected, answer to a question from a college student, sending the delusional masses into a frenzy.
THE NEWSROOM is Sorkin’s third show to revolve around characters working within different areas of the media. SPORTS NIGHT and STUDIO 60 were very well received, which gives us even more reason to anticipate an engaging and successful finished product from these innovative thinkers. Let us know what you think of the trailer…

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
