Simon Phillips and Jonathan Sothcott’s new UK indie CHATA Pictures (White Collar Hooligan) has wrapped principal photography on hard-hitting crime thriller Riot.
Filmed on location and at Wimbledon Studios, Riot focuses on Damien, a lone wolf cop who must chose between his friends and his duty as two worlds collide during the 2011 London riots in this violent, uncompromising crime epic in the tradition of The Long Good Friday and The Sweeney.
The stellar cast is lead by rising star Nick Nevern (White Collar Hooligan, Terry) and also includes Kellie Shirley (Run For Your Wife), Jenna Harrison (The Magnificent Eleven), Roland Manookian (The Football Factory, Rise of the Footsoldier), Charlie Bond (Strippers Vs Werewolves), Lorraine Stanley (London To Brighton) and Steven Berkoff (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Beverly Hills Cop).
Riot marks Phillips’ directorial debut and according to his partner Sothcott he took to the role well: “Simon is a natural director – he has a natural empathy with actors having been one himself and he is incredibly accomplished technically,” enthuses Elfie Hopkins producer Sothcott. “As one of the finest producers in the industry he also knows how to wring every penny of production value out of a shot. Simon’s chosen his first film as a director well – this is an incredibly powerful British crime film that is going to resonate with people more than anything else I see on the horizon. This really is a film for today.”
