It has been revealed this week that Martin Campbell, director of CASINO ROYALE and GREEN LANTERN, has taken captaincy of the upcoming true story film THE DIVE alongside writer J Michael Straczynski. The 20th Century Fox production previously had James Cameron linked with the responsibility of bringing it to cinema screens but apparently he’s now a little too preoccupied with two AVATAR sequels and a diving venture of his own (you just can’t keep the man out of water.)
THE DIVE is set to be a true and somewhat of a solemn affair of the freediver Franciaco Ferraras and his wife, Audrey Mestre. Freediving involves swimming to miraculous depths without the use of an oxygen cylinder and the movie should surround the couple’s tragic attempts to break Mestre’s freediving world record of 557.7 feet.
Lets just hope that Campbell can get back to form after the disappointing action adventure GREEN LANTERN.
