Michael Bay Responds to TMNT Controversy

Just yesterday, director Michael Bay confirmed his involvement in a reboot of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and revealed a new twist in the quartet’s origin story. ‘These turtles are from an alien race,’ stated Bay, as TMNT fanboys across the globe planned a ninja attack on the TRANSFORMERS creator.

The plan to change the Turtles from mutants to aliens has angered fans, and managed to make the films title nonsensical. The original comics and screen adaptations saw the foursome mutate from pets to superheroes after being exposed to toxic waste. Now they’re aliens set out to protect Earth or something, I don’t know. They better still love pizza.

Bay has now responded to fan’s negative reactions:

‘Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.’

An upside is that the TMNT reboot is currently being scripted by MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Downside is that it’s being directed by Jonathan Liebseman, who gave us TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING…

Not exactly the best turn of phrase to try and get the anti-Bay’s back on his side. Comes across as pedantic from him.

“Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place.”

    Except for the original story.

I just love the hubris of film makes who take something that’s been written (i.e. Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief) solds tons and tons of copies – but they feel the need to “refresh” it – or put their own twist on it.

Hey Einstein – maybe the reason it got so popular in the first place – so that you decided to make a movie about it – was because the story was just fine without your help!
