Confirmed for a release Christmas Day 2013, Platinum Dunes are behind the reboot of those sewer-dwelling ‘heroes in a half shell’. Michael Bay, director of monster hits TRANSFORMERS and ARMAGEDDON and his ‘remake machine’ will oversee production, alongside Nickelodeon Films.
Speaking at the Nickelodeon Upfront event in New York, Bay went on to hint, that in the new version, the characters of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello may find their origin ‘not of this earth’. Thus making the their comic-book birth and the term ‘mutant’ in the title TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, pretty much obsolete.
When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.
Jonathan Liebsman, who previously helmed Platinum Dunes’ THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, will direct. He also has sequel WRATH OF THE TITANS due on 30th March.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

I am devastated. Just when you think Michael Bay couldn’t be any more of an invasive tart, he makes ‘Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles’. Sweet Lord!

I agree, Martin. this is outright foolishness. Hollywood has a knack for taking wonderful ideas of the past and ripping them apart to start “anew.” It’s sad. Boycott!

While I would love for another one of these movies to come out.. I can’t state my anger over the stupidity of the idea of changing their origin. It’s what makes the ninja turtles mutant ninja turtles. One does not simply rewrite a beginning to a well known story just to be able to make money. It’s stupid. But knowing the power of our generation I doubt to see this movie ever be finished.
