After seeing Alexandre Aja’s intense French slasher, SWITCHBLADE ROMANCE, the director has impressed me with how he has treated the genre since his move to Hollywood. Blowing me away with quite possibly one of the greatest horror remakes of all time, in the form of his relentless, THE HILLS HAVE EYES update.
Aja then took a step backward with the disappointing MIRRORS (although it did feature some impressive stand-out scenes), however his enjoyable and gory PIRANHA 3D was as hilarious as it was blood-soaked.
For his next project, Aja is in early talks to helm a adaptation of Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman’s graphic-novel, vampire series UNDYING LOVE. Both the creators, Coker and Freedman, have penned the screenplay, so for those unfamiliar to the concept, the official synopsis goes as follows:-
A horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, set in modern day Hong Kong. Ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: Mei’s a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. The only problem: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history…

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
