He may be a muppet of a man but Jason Segel won’t be penning the recently announced sequel to THE MUPPETS. A hectic schedule means the actor and writer will be having a Me Party (sing with me now, ‘a party by himself’) as co-writer Nicholas Stoller and director James Bobin re-team with Kermit and co.
THE MUPPETS leading man has had to bow out to the sequel due to commitments to long-running sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, upcoming Apatow comedy THIS IS FORTY and promotion for Emily Blunt rom-com THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT. Segel is also thought to have a number of new scripts in the pipeline.
Disney has only just finalised the deal to bring The Muppets back to the big screen meaning there’s no news on plot or casting, meaning Segel’s character may not feature. However, Disney insiders claim he could appear in an acting role depending how the script turns out.
Songwriter Bret McKenzie is also yet to confirm his involvement, but after winning Best Original Song at this years Oscars for ‘Man or Muppet’ something tells us he’ll be back.
