Brave Gets Its First TV Spot

This years big Disney Pixar release seems to be slightly different to the robots, cars and toys that we’ve had over the past few summers. BRAVE, set in Scotland, sees a little red-haired girl fight bears, shoot arrows and climb rock formations – and now we can see it in its own TV spot.

The film stars Kelly Macdonald (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, BOARDWALK EMPIRE) as Princess Merida, a girl who decides to break her kingdoms tradition, but inadvertently unleashes trouble. With help from an unusual old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) Merida is granted one wish – which goes wrong. She must then use her archery skills to undo the kingdoms curse, while discovering what real bravery is.

The film also stars Billy Connolly as King Fergus, Emma Thompson as Queen Elinor, Kevin McKidd as Lord MacGuffin, Craig Ferguson as Lord MacIntosh and Robbie Coltrane as Lord Dingwall. Since it is set in Scotland, I think it’s very fitting that half of the cast is Scottish – making this a big change to a cast list that’s normally full of American actors.

I feel like BRAVE is a big risk for Disney Pixar to take because of its lack of monsters, talking animals and Tom Hanks. However, Americans love the British and this could be very successful overseas.

BRAVE is due for release from 22nd June, 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
