Scott Lets Slip Pearce’s Prometheus Role

Only a few more months until Ridley Scott finally unleashes his ALIEN-universe set feature PROMETHEUS, which also happens to be his first return to science-fiction since BLADE RUNNER.

Now the legendary director has given an early indication of just whom the great Guy Pearce will portray in the film. The news comes via an interview Scott gave to an Hungarian media source regarding intricate details of the films plot. Those looking for tenuous links to Scott’s franchise opener and the ALIEN series in general will recognise the surname immediately, so if you prefer to remain spoiler free, read no further!

When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.

Lance Henriksen previously portrayed the character of Charles Weyland in Paul W.S. Anderson’s ALIEN VS PREDATOR, which tried to explain his link to appearances in ALIENS and ALIEN RESURRECTION. PROMETHUES will be in cinemas 1st June and will co-star Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall-Green.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
